AT Scope of Practice consultation outcome

13 Feb, 2024

A consultation document proposing a draft revised scope of practice for the anaesthetic technician (AT) profession was published in July 2023 (closing in September). Feedback was sought from anaesthetic technicians and associated stakeholder groups.

As ATs are registered health professionals the Council must regularly review the scope of practice to ensure it remains fit for purpose, and that practitioners are equipped to respond to an ever-changing healthcare practice environment.

Thank you to those 488 individuals and groups who provided feedback. You can view the consultation outcome and a summary of key feedback themes in the document below.

Outcome – next steps

The Council has decided to progress the work. It’s appointed an expert advisory group of ATs from across the profession, as well as a lay person, to advise it on completing this project.
